About

We are blessed to have two wonderful boys, 7 and 8 years old, adopted from Kazakhstan in 2006 and have been on a yearlong journey to adopt a daughter. We attempted to adopt independently from Russia with the best of intentions but unfortunately selected an adoption provider who was unable to follow through. We’ve learned a lot and we know that not everyone involved in adoption is in it for the children. The setback has been heartbreaking but we will press on.

After much thought and prayer we have decided to adopt from China and have renewed hope. We’ve signed with a terrific agency and have received PA (pre-approval in China adoption speak) for a 7 year old girl. Our home study is done and we expect our dossier to be sent to China in late January (DTC in China adoption speak). While the timeline can very, we hope this means we will travel in the late Spring. Our boys are very excited about having a little sister and talk about helping her learn the language, help her at school and share their toys. Their hearts are as full as ours!

Our experience with Russia has strained our finances and emotions, but not our faith. We will make it happen. We will budget, we will save and we will apply for grants. Asking others for help is not something we are very good at. It is hard for us. We hope you will accept our request in the spirit it is intended, to help give an orphaned little girl a forever home. Anything will help and mean so much.

As we move forward, any help will be gratefully accepted:

  • Your love, support and prayers.
  • Airline miles for adoption travel.
  • Gently used clothes and toys for a girl aged 5 – 8.
  • Any crafts or gently used items that you would like to donate to an online auction/rummage sale or garage sale.
  • Participation and sharing of fundraisers and raffles we will host to help support our adoption.
  • Donations.

We will post our plans, process and provide transparency in our finances as things progress.

Congrats! Having a beautiful 9 year old daughter who was born in China, we know the paper chase quite well. 🙂 Best of luck to all of you as you complete your journey!

    Hello Gaines Family,

Congratulation on sweet Finnley, She is adorable.

I ran accross you blog while researching advocacy sites. We are currently seeking a special focus girl from china and wondered what you know about Finnley’s Friend in the photo with her. Can you email me back with any/all the information that you have on her.

    Thank you,

Hi Gaines family, I don’t know if you still check this blog, but we are in the process of submitting our DTC for one of the girls in Rowyns friends pictures, from the SWI orphanage in Panzhihua. Would love to talk to you about your experience in Panzhihua and to find out what Rowyn might know about your future daughter. -James and Kassandra
